When you dial in your favorite callout, create a new style preset with it so that you can quickly apply this look to another action.- In this chapter, we're gonna take a deeper dive into the powerful recording capabilities of ScreenFlow. ![]() Export your image by going up to the File menu, Export, and selecting Export As. Back up your play-head, and let's preview the callout. I think a build time of about a third of a second feels about right. Finally, you can adjust the Build In and Build Out to control the transition time for the highlight to appear and disappear. And Round, which only works on the Foreground Window option, will make your callout have rounded corners. Feather will soften the edges of the highlight. This checkbox will add drop shadow to the highlight. And then drop the opacity of the rest of the screen down to zero. ![]() If you want to create a nice halo effect, you can set the outline to a value of about three, and then click the Color Well, jump over to the Crayons, and select this nice tangerine color. The outline lets you apply a colored stroke around the highlighted region. The Border slider adjusts the padding or the overall size of the highlighted region. The Zoom Up slider will zoom in on the highlighted region, making it easier for your viewer to see menu selections and other tool panels. Or, you can check the Blurred Background option to create a soft blur under the shadowed area of the canvas, now this creates a really nice look. And this is helpful for blurring out sensitive information. ![]() The Blur slider will blur the contents of the highlighted window. You can then adjust the opacity of the shaded region of the screen. If you scrub your play-head down a bit, you can see that the callout will automatically track the current menu, and it shifts its focus to the fly-out menu when that becomes the new selected menu. I'll select the Foreground window to create a highlight around the File menu. And the Freehand highlight lets you paint your own window using a circular or a rectangular brush. The Foreground window creates a window around the current application window or any selected menus. For example, the mouse cursor highlight creates this circular window around the mouse that follows the movements of the mouse. Now all of these highlights cover over the entire canvas with a semi-transparent overlay and a window that's been cut out to form the type of highlight that you've selected. ![]() Then choose one of the three highlights of mouse cursor, foreground window, or freehand. Then position the action so that the starting and ending key frames align with the markers that I've placed on the timeline. We always begin by selecting the clip and then adding an action. Now that may be your cursor, a window, a menu, or any region of the screen where you want their eyes to focus. Now the sole purpose of a callout is to draw your viewer's focus to a specific area of the screen. Now the Callouts Property panel has a set of controls that can only be applied to an action, rather than entire clip as we've seen with most of the other Property panels. Now, if you're following along, I'm in the Callouts project, where I have a short clip of screen-captured footage recorded in ScreenFlow. Now let's shift our focus to drawing our viewers' attention to exactly what you want them to focus on with callouts, annotations, and text. ![]()
